AI Video Editor: Edit Video by Editing Text
Cutting a talking video on a timeline is slow. Here the speech is turned into text, and you edit the video like a document: untick the sentences you don't want, remove long pauses in one click, and download the tightened video.
How to edit a video with its transcript
- 1Click “Choose video” or drag a video onto the page, then click “Transcribe”.
- 2Untick the lines you want to cut, and choose whether to remove silences longer than 0.5, 1 or 2 seconds.
- 3Check the new length and click “Export video” to download it, plus its subtitles if you want them.
Cut by sentence
Every spoken line has a checkbox. Unticking it removes that part of the video, picture and sound together, so retakes, mistakes and tangents disappear without scrubbing through a timeline.
Remove silences
Long pauses are found by measuring how loud the audio is, and every pause longer than the length you pick is shortened. Short fades at each cut keep the sound from clicking.
Private by design
Transcription uses OpenAI's Whisper model running in your browser (a one-time download of about 80 MB, or 250 MB for the more accurate model). Your video is never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
- Is it free?
- Yes, with no signup and no watermark.
- Is my video uploaded?
- No. Transcription and editing happen on your device.
- What kind of videos does it work best on?
- Videos where people talk: tutorials, vlogs, interviews, podcasts and presentations. Music videos and videos without speech have little to cut by text.
- Can I get subtitles for the edited video?
- Yes. After exporting, download the transcript as an SRT file that already matches the new timing.
- Does it change the video quality?
- The edited video is re-encoded at high quality as an MP4, up to 1080p.
