CSV to JSON Converter

Turn a spreadsheet export into JSON you can use in code or an API. Paste CSV or open a file, and each row becomes a JSON object keyed by the column names.

How to convert CSV to JSON

  1. 1Paste your CSV or open a .csv file.
  2. 2Choose whether the first row holds column names and whether to convert numbers.
  3. 3Copy the JSON or download it as a .json file.

Separator detection

Commas, semicolons, tabs and pipes are detected automatically, so files saved by European versions of Excel work too. The separator used is shown under the result.

Real JSON types

With the type option on, “42” becomes the number 42 and “true” becomes the boolean true. Turn it off to keep every value as text, for example to preserve leading zeros in phone numbers or PIN codes.

Quoted values

Values in quotes can hold commas and line breaks, and doubled quotes inside them are read correctly, following the CSV standard (RFC 4180).

Frequently asked questions

Is my file uploaded?
No. It's read and converted in your browser.
What if there's no header row?
Turn off “First row is the column names” and each row becomes an array of values instead of an object.
Why did my leading zeros disappear?
Numbers lose leading zeros in JSON. Turn off the type option to keep values exactly as written.
