Percentage Calculator
Answer the three percentage questions that come up most: what is 15% of 2,400, what percent is 360 of 2,400, and how much did a price go up or down. Type the numbers and the answers appear immediately.
How to calculate a percentage
- 1Pick the calculator that matches your question.
- 2Type the two numbers.
- 3Read the answer and copy it if you need it.
The formulas
X% of Y is X ÷ 100 × Y. X as a percent of Y is X ÷ Y × 100. The change from A to B is (B − A) ÷ A × 100, shown as an increase or a decrease.
Everyday examples
Use the first calculator for discounts and tips, the second for exam marks (360 out of 400 is 90%) and the third for price changes, salary hikes and growth figures.
Increase versus decrease
A rise from 80 to 100 is a 25% increase, but a fall from 100 to 80 is a 20% decrease, because each change is measured against its own starting value.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I calculate a percentage of marks?
- Use “X is what percent of Y?”: enter your marks as the value and the maximum marks as the total.
- Can I use decimals?
- Yes. Every field accepts decimals and numbers with commas, such as 12.5 or 1,00,000.
- Why can't the starting value be zero?
- Any change from zero is infinitely large as a percentage, so it can't be calculated.
