Media Info: Video and Audio File Details
Find out exactly what's inside a video or audio file: container, codecs, resolution, frame rate, bitrates, audio channels and any title or artist tags.
How to check a file's details
- 1Click “Choose a video or audio file” or drag one onto the page.
- 2Read the details. Nothing is converted or uploaded.
What the codes mean
Codecs are shown as codec strings: avc1 is H.264, hvc1 or hev1 is HEVC (H.265), vp09 is VP9, av01 is AV1, mp4a.40.2 is AAC and opus is Opus. They're what websites and editors ask for when they say a format isn't supported.
Bitrates and frame rate
Bitrates and frame rate are measured from the start of the file, so a variable-bitrate file can differ slightly from its overall average. The overall bitrate is the file size divided by its length.
