Password Generator
Create strong, random passwords for new accounts and Wi-Fi networks. Choose the length and character types, and every password is made on your device with a secure random generator.
How to generate a strong password
- 1Set the length. 16 or more is a good default.
- 2Choose which characters to include.
- 3Copy a password and save it in your password manager.
How strong is strong
Strength is measured in bits of entropy: how many guesses an attacker needs. A 16-character password using letters, digits and symbols has about 100 bits, far beyond what any computer can guess. Length adds strength faster than adding symbol types.
Truly random
Passwords come from your browser's cryptographically secure random generator, with no bias toward any character. Each password includes at least one character of every type you choose, which many sites require.
Easier to type
“Avoid look-alikes” leaves out characters that are easy to confuse, such as 0 and O or 1, l and I. That helps when you have to read a password aloud or type it on a TV.
Frequently asked questions
- Are my passwords sent or saved anywhere?
- No. They're generated in your browser and disappear when you leave the page.
- How long should a password be?
- At least 12 characters, and 16 or more for important accounts. Use a different password for every site.
- Should I remember these passwords?
- Use a password manager to store them. It's safer than reusing passwords you can remember.
