How to convert temperature
- 1Type the temperature in the box for the scale you have.
- 2Read it in every other scale.
- 3Check the reference list for common temperatures.
The formulas
°F = °C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32, and °C = (°F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9. Kelvin starts at absolute zero: K = °C + 273.15. Rankine is the Fahrenheit-sized version of Kelvin.
Useful reference points
Water freezes at 0 °C (32 °F) and boils at 100 °C (212 °F) at sea level. Normal body temperature is about 37 °C (98.6 °F), and a fever starts around 38 °C (100.4 °F).
Absolute zero
Nothing can be colder than absolute zero: −273.15 °C, −459.67 °F or 0 K. Values below it are flagged as impossible.
