ASCII Art Generator
Turn a photo or logo into art made of letters and symbols, for code comments, terminals, README files or just for fun.
How to make ASCII art
- 1Choose an image.
- 2Set the width in characters and the character set.
- 3Copy the art or download it as a text file.
How it works
The image is divided into cells; darker cells get denser characters like # and @, lighter ones dots and spaces. Cells are twice as tall as wide, like characters.
Light or dark
Choose the background you'll show it on: on dark terminals the characters stand for light, so the image is flipped.
Best images
High-contrast pictures with a plain background, like logos and portraits on white, give the clearest results.
