Convert Stereo to Mono

Turn a stereo recording into a single mono channel. Mix both sides together, or keep just the left or right side, for example when a microphone only recorded on one side.

How to convert stereo to mono

  1. 1Click “Choose audio file” or drag a file onto the page. Videos work too.
  2. 2Choose “Mix both sides”, “Left only” or “Right only”.
  3. 3Click “Convert to mono” and download the file.

When is mono better?

Speech, podcasts and voice notes rarely need stereo. Mono plays the same on one earbud or a phone speaker, and a lavalier or interview mic recorded on only one side sounds right in both ears once it's mono.

Mix or one side?

“Mix both sides” averages the two channels, which keeps everything. If one side is silent or noisy, choose the side that sounds good instead, so the volume isn't halved or the noise isn't mixed in.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?
Yes, with no signup.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The channels are mixed in your browser.
Will the file be smaller?
For WAV and FLAC, a mono file is about half the size. For MP3 and M4A the size depends on the bitrate more than on the number of channels.
