Text Diff: Compare Two Texts

Find what changed between two versions of a contract, an essay or a document. Paste the original and the new version, and every added or removed word is highlighted.

How to compare two texts

  1. 1Paste the original text on the left and the changed text on the right.
  2. 2Choose whether to compare by words, lines or characters.
  3. 3Read the highlighted differences: removed text is struck through in red, added text underlined in green.

Words, lines or characters

Words is best for prose and shows edits within a sentence. Lines suits code, lists and configuration files. Characters catches the smallest changes, such as a single digit in a number or a missing comma.

Ignore what doesn't matter

Turn on “Ignore case” to treat “Price” and “price” as the same. When comparing lines, “Ignore spaces” skips differences that are only extra spaces.

Private comparisons

Contracts and drafts are often confidential. Both texts stay in your browser; nothing is uploaded or saved.
