US Passport Photo Maker (2×2 inch)
US passports and visas use a square 2×2 inch (51×51 mm) photo with the head between 1 and 1⅜ inches tall, on a plain white or off-white background. This tool finds your face and places it to those measurements.
How to make a US passport photo
- 1Take a photo facing the camera, in even light, against a plain white wall.
- 2Choose it here. The United States size is already selected.
- 3Check the placement, adjust if needed, and download the digital file or print sheet.
The measurements
Size 2×2 in (51×51 mm). Head 1 to 1⅜ in (25 to 35 mm) from chin to the top of the head. Background plain white or off-white. For online applications, the digital file here is 1200×1200 pixels.
What this tool doesn't check
It sizes and crops your photo but doesn't judge lighting, expression or glasses. Glasses aren't allowed in US passport photos. The final rules are on travel.state.gov, so check them before you apply.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I print it at home?
- Yes. Print the sheet at 100% scale on glossy or matte photo paper, not on plain paper.
- Is my photo uploaded?
- No. Your photo stays on your device.
- Does it guarantee acceptance?
- No. The officer decides. This tool gets the size and head position right, but the photo itself must meet the rules.
