Add Page Numbers to a PDF

Make long documents easy to navigate and refer to. Choose where the numbers go and how they look, start from any number, and leave the cover page unnumbered if you like.

How to add page numbers to a PDF

  1. 1Choose the PDF.
  2. 2Pick the position, format, first number and size.
  3. 3Click “Add page numbers” and download the numbered PDF.

Formats

Choose plain numbers, “Page 1”, “Page 1 of 10”, “1 / 10” or “- 1 -”. The total counts the numbered pages, so with the cover skipped, a 10-page PDF shows “of 9”.

Sideways pages

Numbers are placed the way the page is displayed, so they appear upright in the right corner even on rotated pages.

Start anywhere

Set the first number to continue numbering from another document, for example starting at 25 for a second chapter.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?
Yes. There's no signup, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.
Are my PDFs uploaded?
No. The PDF is processed in your browser, on your own device, and never leaves it.
Can I skip the cover page?
Yes. Turn on “Don't number the first page”; numbering then starts on page 2 with your first number.
Can I use other alphabets?
Not yet. Page numbers and labels can use Latin letters, digits and common symbols.
