Remove PDF Metadata
PDFs quietly record who made them, with which apps and when. Strip those details before you publish or send a document, without changing a single page.
How to remove metadata from a PDF
- 1Choose the PDF.
- 2Click “Remove metadata”.
- 3Download the cleaned PDF.
What's removed
The title, author, subject, keywords, the names of the apps used, the created and modified dates, and the XMP metadata stored for the document, its pages and its images.
What isn't
The pages themselves aren't changed, so a name printed on a page, in a comment or in a form field stays. Check the result with PDF Info.
Private by design
The PDF is cleaned in your browser. Uploading a document to strip its private details would defeat the point.
Frequently asked questions
- Is it free?
- Yes. There's no signup, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.
- Are my PDFs uploaded?
- No. The PDF is processed in your browser, on your own device, and never leaves it.
- How can I check it worked?
- Open the cleaned file in PDF Info: the title, author, apps and dates should be gone.
- Does it work with password-protected PDFs?
- Yes. You're asked for the password when you open the file; it's only used on your device to read the PDF.
